A Canton classic reissued
To mark Canton's 50th anniversary, we have revived a particularly popular model - the Karat floorstanding speaker from 2002. In this new edition, the Canton Karat GS Edition combines the traditionally slim cabinet of this series with the latest technologies from Canton's development laboratory. The slim stature of the 3.5-way bass reflex speaker is made possible by the 10-inch woofer mounted on the side. This turns the Karat GS Edition into a wolf in sheep's clothing: the side bass lends the elegantly appearing speaker an acoustic vehemence and a depth that the observer and listener would not initially believe in the slim speaker design. The dynamic performance is ideally accompanied by the two midrange drivers with tripple curved cones made of ceramic tungsten and the excellent tweeter dome made of aluminium oxide ceramic. Fine WBT-nextgen speaker terminals, selected crossover components and high-quality internal wiring are further guarantees for an inspiring sound experience - for a lifetime.
The Karat GS Edition has an understated, elegant design, yet offers plenty for the eye to behold. Limited to 1972 pairs, the Black Edition of the Karat GS Edition features our most technically advanced loudspeaker drivers enhancing the slender baffle. Black trim rings encircle the technically excellent 154 millimetre midrange drivers with black ceramic tungsten drivers. The Karat GS Edition - the GS stands for our company co-founder Günter Seitz - is available in three different cabinet finishes. If you are looking for something special, choose the exclusive "Dusty green", which gives the Karat GS Edition a modern, fresh and at the same time distinguished appearance. Silk-matt lacquered versions in black or white are also available and enable stylish integration into almost any living environment. A solid yet discreet base ensures that the slim floor-standing speaker stands securely. Last but not least, a newly designed Canton logo adorns the baffle of the cabinet, further emphasising the special nature of this speaker.
Top quality technology guarantees outstanding sound
The Karat GS Edition benefits from the experience we have gained in 50 years of development. In the midrange and tweeter, for example, we use cone materials and technologies that are also responsible for the best possible sound development, excellent dynamics and durability in our Reference k Series speakers. The midrange drivers are made from lightweight, incredibly stiff ceramic tungsten, allowing them to follow fast musical impulses with ease. The special diaphragm profile (Tripple Curved Cone) achieves a very high stability of the diaphragm, minimising distortion. In addition, the dispersion characteristics are improved and the frequency range is extended. The omnidirectional response of our 25 mm aluminium oxide ceramic tweeter is optimised by the computer-optimised transmission front plate. The tweeters and midrange drivers are mounted in a separate enclosure compartment with generous volume - this ensures precise, impulsive performance and enables a low crossover frequency to the side-mounted woofer. This 257 millimetre bass specialist is equipped with a solid cellulose/graphite cone. The enormous bass response is achieved by the impressive enclosure volume and the use of the streamlined bass reflex port on the rear of the cabinet.
Perfection in details
The Karat GS Edition speakers are equipped with particularly contact-friendly connection terminals from the manufacturer WBT: the nextgen terminals accept crimped cable ends up to 6 mm² as well as cable lugs and banana plugs. The low-mass terminals not only ensure permanent contact, they also guarantee true-to-the-original signal transmission and authentic sound experiences. Due to the bi-amping/bi-wiring design, the low and mid-high ranges can be driven by different amplifiers or connected separately with specialised cables. For sound reasons, you should use a very high-quality cable for your Karat GS Edition - like the CantoLink 600, which we offer in our online shop. It was developed for us by the world-renowned cable manufacturer in-akustik. The cable consists of two stranded wires with an effective cable cross-section of 2 x 5 mm². The symmetrical, low-inductance construction of the CantoLink 600 not only enables homogeneous high-frequency reproduction - it also impresses with its tight, dynamic and very clear sound. It is ideal for our Karat GS Edition, which has an excellent sound.
